Placed 2,265th overall out of 12,000+.  Not bad for my first race ever.
Everything about last night was pretty goddamn epic.  Running with an enormous heard of people was a great feeling, as was the ridiculous, harrowing journey to and from the race without a car (more on that on the next Podcast).
I had a smashed toe from Parkour, and a sore ankle from the mismatched-shoe run earlier this week.  Despite the pain I was in previous to the race, it all faded away once I started moving.  My pace for the first half was easy, a little too easy, but I tore up the last two kilometers, and sprinted the last 400m.  After recovering from that, and hanging out with some of the runners afterwards, I felt like a million dollars.  This definately won’t be my one and only race.

Hahaha, oh god.  For some reason, ustream shat on me and decided to deliver all the audio in super slow motion.  Kami was kind enough to jump in and stream our show through Skype to his mixer in Scotland, and back out to the internet for his show’s feed.
Unfortunately, that meant that he got control of the video.

I’m on the final stages of making a mix for the Nike+ Human Race tomorrow.  The first half hour or so is easy (124 bpm) with clips from Nobody Likes Onions playing with the music to keep my mind off the distance.  After a half hour, it ramps up to 145ish bpm, and the clips from the show end at the fourty minute mark.  From there, I have a fast Chemical Brothers song, followed by a 174 BPM asskicking to get me sprinting at the 45 minute mark.
After that, I don’t know what to do.  The mix is tailored very specifically to my desired 10k times.  The fast segment ends at 56:00 which should put me well beyond the finish line.  What if my time gets fucked up, though?
If I am optimistic about making my time, I can just kill the mix (as seen above).
If I am pessimisticly cautious, I’d throw in another ten minutes of muisc, to give myself time for any unexpected delays/injuries/whatnots.
Where do I draw the line between setting myself up for failure, and being practical?  I don’t want to doubt myself, but I know it would sting a lot if I’m still approaching the finish line and the mix is ending.
What a ridiculous conundrum.
(edit: I ended it with Daft Punk’s 10 minute closing track from Alive 2007.  I’m happy with it.)
