1. “The DVR phenomenon is a little bit higher than we thought,” said David Poltrack, CBS’ chief research executive.

David Poltrack, you should be fired and replaced with a fourteen year-old.  You didn’t think that people would buy a cheap set-top box that lets them time-shift your primetime schedule and skip commercials? Modern DVRs have been around for nine years, and you’re just now expressing your surprise that a third of homes have them?  I understand that you don’t like the idea of DVRs, but that doesn’t mean you should pretend they’re not real.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. David Poltrack is also the “research executive” behind saying “Fuck hulu and fuck streaming our shows online.  They will watch Big Bang Theory on Mondays, or a year later on VHS/LASERDISC”.  CBS stands as the last major network with next to no online streaming (1:45 clips don’t count), wayyy out of date iTunes listings, and generally not giving a damn about technologies that have emerged since 1999.

These guys need to modernize their studios, clean up their websites, and generally get their shit together. They can start with sending Mr. Poltrack over to Vicaom, where he will do R&D for TV Land.
