1. According to The Daily What, this was NBC’s response to criticism for not live streaming the Olympic opening ceremonies:

    …they are complex entertainment spectacles that do not translate well online because they require context

    Followed shortly by this reasoning for why they cut the ceremonies’ tribute to victims of terrorism:

    Our programming is tailored for the U.S. audience. It’s a tribute to [producer] Danny Boyle that [the opening ceremonies] required so little editing.

    To sum that up, NBC is saying that “we didn’t stream the opening ceremonies live because we had to provide context with our mad broadcasting skills, but it was so good that we didn’t have to do much in post”.
